Several options have recently been put forward for the future development of the village, ranging from 500 more homes to 4,500. The Design Group hosted presentations exploring some of these options and the issues involved.

Report

This meeting proved extremely popular, with over 100 people attending - the most we've ever had for a Design Group meeting.

The meeting started with an introduction by the Design Group's Chairman, Steve Poole, outlining the options that are on the table from the District and Parish Councils and introducing the speakers.

This was followed by a presentation by the Group's Vice Chair, John Williams, outlining some of the groups thoughts and suggestions, in particular in relation of the Parish Council's Option 2. This presentation can be downloaded here (.pdf 1.3Mb).

Design Group member Robin Heydon then gave a thought provoking talk giving his personal analysis of some of the problems we face and suggesting what a larger-scale solution might look like.

The presentations were followed by some lively debate, with contributions from a number of residents, including members of the Parish Council speaking both for and against the options presented in their name. Several people expressed the view that the consultation process had not been sufficiently well publicised and the Chairman spent some time trying to clarify what stage of the process we had reached and explaining when and how people could respond.

Further notes on Robin Heydon's presentation and on the discussion which followed are available here.

The members of the Group present decided that it was very important to give as much time as possible for debate and therefore decided to postpone the AGM until a later date.

We aim to ensure that development and change in Cottenham is based on a considered understanding of the Village's past and present, and that it will contribute positively to the future of the Village, protecting and enhancing its special nature
